Ashley Chloe has announced two new true wireless earbuds: the Fuse, and then under its Rowkin brand, the Ascent. The Fuse is Ashley Chloe’s first attempt at true wireless earbuds, and its second product following the Helix Cuff the company debuted with on Kickstarter.
The Verge first checked out an early version of the Ashley Chloe Fuse at last year’s CES, and the new iteration of the earbuds, which is actually supposed to ship, is quite different from what was originally shown.
The Fuse will have a rechargeable dual-purpose case that can recharge the earbuds or power your other devices, like a phone, through Qi wireless charging. Unfortunately, it looks like a couple of pretty cool features were lost. The original Fuse earbuds were magnetic, a pretty handy utility for tiny, unattached objects.
The new Fuse earbuds are not. The first Fuse earbuds also had a longer battery life of four hours (the new version has three), and there was supposed to be an app to allow for adjusting frequencies to your liking.
The new Fuse are aesthetically nice though, with a pebble-shaped case and minimal gold band. They also have a 5mm driver and support Bluetooth 5.0. The downgrades are a bit of a bummer, but it is nice to have an earbud case that can wirelessly save my phone in a pinch if I’m low on battery.
Ashley Chloe’s other brand, Rowkin, is also debuting true wireless earbuds called the Ascent. These are sportier looking, and have five hours of battery life, which is on the higher end for true wireless. Its case is also dual purpose as a power bank, and the company says it can rapidly recharge the earbuds in just five minutes for an additional two hours of music playback. A tiny but nifty point: the storage pockets in the case are magnetic and automatically snap each earbud into place. It also features 5mm drivers, supports Bluetooth 5.0, and has an app that delivers on what the Fuse originally promised. You can adjust EQ settings and locate your earbuds with the “Find My Rowkins” feature if they get misplaced.
Ashley Chloe says the Fuse will be available later this year for $169.99, and the Rowkin Ascent will be in production later this year, priced at $129.99.
